That's right, the winter solstice means more than just the longest night of the year--it means the 2nd annual Maine Winter Man Camp. Jason and two friends went old school camping in the frozen Maine woods. The weather was a balmy 7 degrees. Wool, canvas, and a big fire got them through the night. Notice how the snow right next to the fire remains unmelted.

Jason and Matt.

The "camp".

Justin got some really nice shots of the fire sparks.

Jason passed the time by making a wooden spoon. He used embers to form the bowl of the spoon.

And a sideways video of Jason blowing the sparks.
They are already planning for next year, although Jason is thinking of suggesting an annual summer man camp as well : )
